Ah summer, we finally made it! We're putting away the rain jackets and pulling out the short shorts and sunscreen. If you're one of the lucky ones, you're probably reading this on your dock out at Lac Du Bonnet or Winnipeg Beach. If, however, you're like me and have no where to go but Assiniboine park, here are a few ways to bring the lake life to your house this summer:
1. Mix heavy wood and light airy fabrics. The quintessential log cabin vibe is what we're aiming for here. Bring in a heavy wooden coffee table and pair with sheer curtains or a thin woven rug. The light textures and surroundings will be grounded by the wood table, and remind you of that dock you wish you were sitting on right now.
2. Incorporate blues. What is a cabin without a lake to overlook? Nothing, that's what. Bring the colour of water into your home with pale blue walls like Clear Lake, or a deep murky navy like Brerton at sunset. You will instantly feel at ease, as if you're floating away on your own catamaran with not a care in the world.
3. Wicker! Those chairs aren't just for your grandmas sun room any more. Pair wicker with upholstered furniture for a calm, textured look. Take your green wicker couch from your porch and give it a fresh coat of white paint for an instant face lift that will also lift the look of any room you put it in.
Happy summer everyone!
